We’re in the throes of LVMH Watch Week 2022, and while the new products are still hot off the presses, now seems like a good time to look back – exactly one week ago, TAG Heuer stole its own launch cycle with a new offering from the Autavia collection. Our brand editor Logan Baker covered the news as the watches were launched. I highly recommend you read his article as it is full of historical anecdotes related to TAG Heuer, TAG Heuer and the Autavia collection.

Needless to say, historically, the Autavia was a base collection for the TAG Heuer name, but it seems to have fallen out of favor over the years. At its inception, it was a collection composed entirely of chronographs – a complication for which the heavily racing brand is famous. For the past decade or so, Autavia brand tag heuer replica watches have effectively only been released in the form of a return to a design with only the TAG Heuer logo.
In 2019, TAG Heuer completely changed the identity of the Autavia line with the launch of what was initially called the Autavia Isograph. That piece was a hybrid design – combining a pilot’s style dial, a bi-directional bezel, and a time and date display. Most notably, it’s not a chronograph.

The overall look is essentially a continuation of the same concept from the 2022 redesign. The large applied markers remain, as do the rotating bezel and date complication. There are also two large pushers on either side of the crown to operate the aforementioned chronograph.
The silver variant is the closest thing to a panda dial, rather than a true panda dial …… That is, unless there is such a thing as a silvered panda, in which case it is a panda dial. Logan points out some similarities between this variant and the classic Seifert dial TAG Heuer Autavias of the past.

Both of these new chronographs have an ultra-industrial feel to them, especially the steel and silver options. The crown is heavily knurled, which in turn makes it easier to grip, and the pushers are quite high for easy access to them. While the reference 226570 is also 42mm wide, Rolex has changed the geometry of the case in a few small ways to make its largest GMT watch more comfortable and proportional. One of the biggest progress in today’s Rolex watches compared to those of 10 or 15 years ago is of course the quality of the bracelet and folding clasp mechanism.
The case of the Rolex Explorer II is 42mm wide, mostly brushed steel, water resistant to 100 meters and has a sapphire crystal on the dial. Rolex has historically been timid about using anti-reflective coatings, and the latest generation of the Submariner is actually the first watch to have a more modern anti-reflective coating applied. I’m not sure if this has translated to the Explorer II, but I will say that the lower level of glossy elements on the dial certainly helps to make the dial easier to read.

As I mentioned above, Rolex has used a new dial and hands on this latest generation of the Explorer II …… even if most people’s eyes won’t notice. Minor differences in the dial exist, but they are not worth mentioning except that the white dial version no longer has glossy hands and hour markers. 226 570 has steel colored hands and hour markers on the black dial version, in addition to being coated with Rolex’s Chromalight luminous material. I think, for me, what really makes this Daytona variant a risky watch is the fact that nowhere on the dial can you find the name it is most often used by. Inspired in large part by our conversation luxury replica watches with Daniel Dae Kim and his Cosmograph, the absence of Daytona text on the dial makes it seem more subtle. I’ve been on a real kick after our military watch inspired series a few weeks ago. Sure, I always enjoy looking at the round T dials of the Mil-Subs and Seamaster 300s in auction catalogs, but I’ve never delved into the subgenre of vintage watches represented by the military-issued pieces. Note the shape of the pierced hour hand, which adds an intriguing design touch to the watch. Following the gray center is the 24-hour disk, and day hours (silver) and night hours (black) are fittingly split into color-coded.
How to set the Patek World Time watch rightly? At first make sure that your corresponding city is positioned at the top of the dial. You can switch through cities by just pushing the button on the side of the case of the 10 o’clock location.
