The unveiling of the cyclops-clad Sea-Dweller last year arrived as a big surprise, as did the elegant Cellini Moonphase, and we do not doubt that the industry’s biggest “heavy hitter” has more hotness ready to satisfy collectors and fans around the globe. The brand has already been teasing that something new on a jubilee bracelet is on its way in the past few weekends, fueling ample speculation of what direction that might go. After a reasonable amount of debate, we’ve narrowed down a list of the new releases we’re looking forward to seeing this week.
The same way the replica Rolex made enthusiasts wait forever to finally see a ceramic bezel Daytona, the wait for a black and red “Coke bezel” GMT Master II has been longer than many have expected. Currently powered by the 3186 manufacture caliber with a 48h power reserve, recent technical advancements at Rolex would make it logical to see the GMT’s caliber refreshed in 2018. Based on Rolex’s teaser clips, a new Datejust 36 with an updated caliber is pretty much a no-brainer at this point. It’s known to all that the fake Rolex intends to update all of its calibers in the coming years, and with the Datejust 41 already under their belt, the 36mm variant is next in line. As much as it would be a very Un-Rolex kind of move to see something like a Submariner or GMT-Master II unveiled on a Jubilee bracelet, we doubt greatly that our speculation on this potential Rolex release is even slightly off the mark.
Last year’s Rolex Cellini Moonphase with pointer date garnered far more attention than most Cellini models ever do, considering the line has long-lived overshadowed by its more iconic siblings. This warm reception continues to fuel speculation that there’s more to come from this underdog collection, not to mention that other more out-of-the-ordinary vintage Rolex models continue to gain traction in the vintage market.
The standard Yacht-Master received an update in 2015 when Rolex revealed it for the first time on its slick Oysterflex Bracelet, but the Yacht-Master II has only seen what could be called minor tweaks with its update last year. Objectively speaking the model is now 11 years old, and is due for some proper change. That is to say, the buy replica Rolex isn’t always that quick to the punch with this sort of thing, so we aren’t entirely sure that this would make it down the pipeline for 2018.
The replica TAG Heuer stated the new Carrera Heuer 02 collection just ahead of this year’s edition of Baselworld, which currently consists of 13 different models in a range of materials and colors. Now, let’s take a deeper look at it.
The new Carrera Heuer 02 symbolizing the 55th anniversary of the iconic Carrera chronograph, first released in 1963 by Heuer. But rather than launching a vintage-inspired model as so many watchmakers tend to do to commemorate milestones, the TAG Heuer replica has instead stuck to a modern chronograph design and outfitted it with a new in-house movement.
As for the designs, Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of TAG Heuer, said: “When it came to designing the new TAG Heuer Carrera, we were faced with an option between a vintage-inspired piece and a modern reworking. We decided on the latter. At TAG Heuer, all of our energy goes into designing the fake watches of the future. We created by anticipating the desires of tomorrow’s consumers.”
Excluding one GMT model with a 45mm case, the new generation Carrera Heuer 02 comes equipped with a 43mm case. Material choices for the case include steel, PVD-coated steel, carbon, ceramic, and gold. What’s more, there’s also a range of straps and bracelets provided in steel, rubber, leather, or ceramic. The modern Carrera keeps its signature bezel with the tachymeter scale.
Owing to its modular construction, various parts of the case, such as the middle section, caseback, lugs, and bezel, can be easily swapped and combined into new configurations—explaining the abundance of variations with one release. Some highlights include a steel and black ceramic version, rose gold and black ceramic version, and a full black ceramic version.
Followers of the Carrera chronograph evolution will find immediately that the subdials on the skeletonized dials have returned to the classic 3/6/9 configuration rather than the 6/9/12 layout we’ve got accustomed to on the Carrera over the last few decades. This is a result of the new in-house Caliber Heuer 02 under the hood.
